June 20, 2023 (Muscatine, IA) – The Stanley Center for Peace and Security celebrated the grand opening of its new headquarters on Friday June 2nd in Muscatine, Iowa, with a sustainability fair and public tours.
At the opening event, ECT Landscape Architect Jonathan Lawrence led an informational station educating visitors about the high-performance, sustainable design features. The building and site water system manages rainwater collection using two 6,750-gallon cisterns. Stormwater is treated through landscape features that include permeable pavement, rain gardens and native vegetation.
ECT partnered with Neumann Monson Architects to transform the 13,500-sf vacant downtown building into an oasis for the organization that showcases their commitment to the environment. This adaptive reuse project was designed to meet Living Building Challenge (LBC) standards. Once certified, the project will be one of only 35 buildings to achieve “Full Living Certification” and one of only four to accomplish this through rehabilitation of an existing building.
