Senior Water Resources Engineer

Position: Full Time

Environmental Consulting & Technology, Inc. (ECT), seeks a dynamic and driven senior-level engineer to join our Water Resources service line. This position is primarily focused within the Water Resources service line, however, ECT has a matrix operating network and project work may cross service lines, regions, etc.

Primary Responsibilities:

  • Stormwater retrofit design, including preparing calculations, construction documents, specifications, and cost estimates.
  • Watershed management planning
  • 1D/2D hydrologic and hydraulic modeling
  • Water quality modeling
  • Project and budget management
  • Technical report writing
  • Environmental Permitting
  • GIS analysis
  • Collection and analysis of data, preparing and checking design computations and quality estimates, preparation or modification of reports,
    specifications, plans, construction schedules, environmental impact studies, permits and designs for projects.

Minimum Education & Experience:

  • Bachelor of Science in a related engineering discipline
  • 4-10 years of experience in Florida
  • Professional Engineering license or ability to obtain within one year
  • Knowledge of ArcGIS, AutoCAD, ICPR, SWMM, PONDS, MS Office, and GPS software

Job Requirements:

  • Demonstrated experience and expertise in water resource issues relevant to Florida
  • Competency in one or more areas including groundwater, surface water, water supply/planning, water quality, water use permitting, watershed
    management planning and coastal restoration

Landscape Ecologist

Position: Full Time

Environmental Consulting & Technology, Inc. (ECT), seeks a senior-level, Landscape Ecologist to join our Natural Resources service line in our Iowa City location. Experience with threatened and endangered species, wetland, and ecological restoration in the Midwest is required.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Perform environmental field work and office-based studies as directed by supervisor, in support of corporate, nonprofit, municipal, and institutional clients.
  • Execute flora and fauna surveys, wetland delineations and determinations, ecological restorations, and wildlife habitat creation design and construction.
  • Oversee the development of construction documents and specifications, rare species protective measures, and wetland impact minimization measures.
  • Conduct natural features baseline and preconstruction studies, construction/restoration oversight, installation, and monitoring/maintenance activities, including mechanical and chemical invasive species treatment, weeding, planting, seeding, and watering.
  • Lead and conduct natural features assessments via desktop and field review, threatened & endangered species surveys and permitting, wetland delineation and permitting, ecological monitoring, environmental education (classroom and field-based), and community outreach activities and prepare graphics, data, written reports/documentation, presentations, and educational documents.
  • Perform identification of Midwest native and invasive plants, with an emphasis on Iowa and Minnesota ecosystems.

Capabilities & Credentials:

  • Certified Ecological Restoration Practitioner, Certified Ecologist, Certified Arborist, Professional Wetland Scientist and/or Minnesota Certified Wetland Delineator, Professional
  • Wildlife Biologist, or Professional Landscape Architect strongly desired.
  • Knowledge and skills related to GPS and ArcGIS software preferred.
  • Reliable transportation and the ability and willingness to undertake considerable travel (day and multi-night) during the field season.
  • Valid driver’s license with clean driving record required.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication skills, technical writing skills, and attention to detail.
  • Excellent field, writing, and oral communication skills and ability to work collaboratively within a multidisciplinary team.
  • Able to juggle multiple projects and changing priorities without missing deadlines or losing sight of overall project goals.
  • Able to lift heavy objects, traverse rough terrain, and experience inclement weather with exposure to sun and insects.
  • Work independently with little direct supervision; self-motivated with sound professional judgement.

Education & Experience:

  • Undergraduate degree in natural resources, terrestrial or aquatic ecology, or related environmental field.
  • 5-10 years’ experience related to threatened and endangered species surveys; wetland delineation; native vegetation identification and restoration, design, and management; invasive species control; and wildlife habitat enhancement.
  • Familiarity with Iowa and Minnesota natural resource regulations and previous experience with environmental consulting and project and budget management desired.
  • Advanced knowledge of Iowa and Minnesota native and invasive plant identification and intermediate knowledge of Midwest wildlife species, including pollinators.
