Here’s what you need to know:
Northern long-eared bat
- Effective January 30, 2023 – status changes to “endangered”
- Range is significantly large – includes 37 states
- Mist-net and acoustic surveys will likely be required
- Construction and development schedules will likely be affected. Surveys can only be completed between May 15-Aug 15
- Seasonal tree clearing restrictions and wooded acreage removal thresholds will affect many projects
- Additional cost considerations for projects that require surveying, mitigation, or take permitting
Lesser Prairie-chicken
- Effective January 24, 2023: status changes to “threatened” for the Northern Distinct Population Segment and “endangered” for the Southern Distinct Population Segment
- Historic range has diminished by 90 %
- Range covers five states including southeastern Colorado, western Kansas, eastern New Mexico, western Oklahoma, and the Texas Panhandle
- Lek surveys need to be conducted between late-March and early-May
