The Dynamic Dominating Dalmatians Compete at Robotics World Championship
May 27, 2002 – (Fort Mill, South Carolina) – Congratulations to The Dominating Dalmatians! These two impressive 7th grade students from South Carolina, are excelling in robotics at an elite level. Anna Beltakis and Lauryn Ponstein won their state robotics competition in March and advanced to the 2022 VEX Robotics World Championship on May 8-10, 2022, in Dallas, Texas.
The determined robot duo joined 800 other teams from 36 nations to compete and showcase their game strategy, design, and teamwork skills. One of the parents called the experience, which was sponsored by a group of companies including ECT, “the best experience of our lives.”
Despite increases in programs encouraging interest from girls and minorities in STEM fields (Science, Technology, Engineering, and Math), the U.S. Census Bureau reports that women account for just 27% of STEM workers. ECT is extremely proud of its majority female workforce with many women holding technical credentials as scientists, engineers, planners, and other specialists.
“Supporting young people’s interests in technical learning and careers is central to our mission,” says Keleigh Williams, ECT’s Chief Development Officer. “When we heard their story, we wanted to be a part of the Dalmatians’ success and hopefully encourage young boys and girls to get involved.”
