ECT, with lead Jacobs Engineering, recently won a new Task Order with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (EPA) and the U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) to support the Rouge River Concrete Channel Habitat Restoration Project.

Funded by the EPA, the project aims to improve this habitat-starved section of the Rouge River. The team will engage property owners along the concrete channel segment and develop ecosystem restoration design concepts.

The project includes the potential to:

  • Provide fish passage through the Rouge River, which would act in concert with other fish-passage restoration efforts occurring within the watershed;
  • Decrease peak velocities with the channel;
  • Re-establish natural riverine functions of sedimentation, erosion, hydraulic forces, and hydrologic fluctuations;
  • Improve richness and abundance of native fish species and other aquatic creatures; and
  • Assist with improving the overall health of the river system and AOC.

ECT’s project team includes Sanjiv Sinha (WR, Ann Arbor), John O’Meara (WR, Ann Arbor), Alice Bailey (WR, Ann Arbor), Michelle Post (WR, Traverse City) and Tennille Newsome (WR, Ann Arbor).
