Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission (FWC) is restoring 0.7-acres of streambanks near the Graham Springs connection with the Sante Fe River in Lake City, Florida. The goal of the project is to maintain the high-water quality conditions found across this portion of the river. Due to the State of Florida’s involvement, the project was required to comply with Chapter 267.061 of the Florida Statutes, the policy relative to cultural resources.
ECT’s Cultural Resources team completed a Phase I Cultural Resources Survey to identify any previously recorded and potentially unrecorded cultural resources within and/or adjacent to the project footprint that may be eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places. The Cultural Resource Assessment Survey was prepared by ECT professionals meeting the Secretary of the Interior’s (SOI) Professional Qualification Standards (48 FR 44716). ECT recorded one new archaeological site which included several pre-contact artifacts and determined that the site was not eligible for listing in the National Register of Historic Places.
