A natural gas utility client undertook a large-scale pipeline replacement initiative, spanning 178 miles across more than 14 communities in Ohio. Given the scale and geographic reach of the project, the client needed a partner who could navigate the complex web of environmental regulations, natural and cultural resource sensitivities, and permitting requirements tied to pre-construction clearance across a broad service territory. ECT was engaged to provide the environmental expertise necessary to keep the project compliant and moving forward without unnecessary delays.
ECT is providing ongoing environmental clearance support for the client’s pipeline segment replacements, including comprehensive reviews of proposed work areas for aquatic resource delineations, threatened and endangered species assessments, development of Stormwater Pollution Prevention Plans (SWPPP) and cultural resource assessments. Additionally, ECT has coordinated with multiple U.S. Army Corps of Engineers (USACE) districts, the U.S. Fish & Wildlife Service (USFWS), the Ohio Department of Natural Resources, and the Ohio State Historic Preservation Office (SHPO); all aligned to keep each phase of construction in step with applicable environmental laws, as well as local, state, and federal permitting requirements. Support for this project also includes direct coordination with the Ohio Power Siting Board (OPSB), as it relates to routing and siting, helping the client in identifying the optimal routes and permitting requirements for any linear infrastructure crossing easements.
