Josey Heights is an innovative, sustainable residential development in Milwaukee, Wisconsin. ECT worked with the developer and the City of Milwaukee to design the layout of the neighborhood, which features an integrated stormwater system and moderate-income custom manufactured housing. This is the first development of its kind in Milwaukee, and it is meant as a model for future development throughout the city and region. The neighborhood includes 37 single family and 14 townhome units.
The sustainable stormwater management system includes permeable paving, bio-filtration rain gardens, and bioswales. Functioning together as an integrated unit, these practices are designed to infiltrate, convey, and store rainwater runoff on site. In order to meet the City release rate requirement, the design includes water storage in gravel storage trenches under the systems within the street and alley rights-of-way and along lot lines. The site does not contain any surface detention areas, which allowed for additional residential lots.
